I constructed this "Day of the Dead" quilt shortly after my mother's death, as I needed to look back on her life with joy rather than sorrow.
I selected a palette of red-hot salsas, fresh outdoorsy greens, and fine weather blues. A joyful scrapbook featuring portraits of my husband, myself, and especially our two girls, then 8 1/2 and 1, emerged. Made in the memory of Brenda Rawson (1 February 1925 - 22 April 2002).
She would have loved it.

The actual bodies of the dead are carefully wrapped and interred in tombs carved into the cliffs. The sinister looking figures on the door guard the dead.
