Jazz

61W x 48H

Both black and white musicians developed "Jazz", as an original art form, at the beginning of the 20th century in the southern United States.
Originally, a vulgar term for copulation, Jazz now refers to a free-form musical style performed within a prescribed chord structure. The "blue note" in the corner represents The Blues, a popular form of Jazz, nursed, rehearsed, and birthed in the South.
Over the air waves, people of all ages and all races listen to, love and play jazz, carrying on the collaborative tradition under which it was originally created.
On the outside border, the names of several popular Canadian and international jazz "greats" have been written using the free-motion quilting technique.
This Fibre art is a part of a series on music,
the universal language.
