The theme of Harmony and Discord quickly brought to mind the Comedy & Tragedy masks that are abundant in Venice at Carnival Time. I portray in fabric what these characters are expressing in life.

"City Gardens"

Amid the noise and steel structures of a congested city, nature's blooms can still prevail as a reminder of natural beauty and harmony.

"Leather Puppet"

Inspired by the Wayang Kulit (leather puppet) of the Javanese shadow puppet theatre. Wood and leather creations dance to chanting, singing and drum beats until the wee hours of the morning, telling a story to their audiences.

"Qashq'ai Lion Rug"

Lions that once roamed the mountains of Southwestern Iran are now extinct. Nonetheless, the lion remains king of the south Persian rug bestiary.

Commercial and hand-dyed cotton fabrics and cotton threads. Machine pieced and free-motion machine stitched.

"West Side Story"

"I live in a thriving art community and this piece represents the colourful neighbourhood that comes to mind, even though, in reality, the streetscape doesn't exude quite so many hues. I hope it shows that harmony and rhythm can be found anywhere."

		"Cryin' the Blues" by Deborah Milton 19" w x 17"h "The Blues are at home in the south where the summer days are lazy and the rhythm is slow and moody. These two sit beneath the live oaks, dripping with Spanish moss, hoping that visitors will drop a penny or two in the hat so they can buy a shot of bourbon." Black and White photo transfers, artist drawings, applique and thread painting, free-motion machine quilted.
